No. 4 Women’s Golf Dominates First Two Matches at NB3 Matchplay
Oct 07, 2025 | Women's Golf
SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. – The No. 4 Texas A&M women's golf team dominated New Mexico and New Mexico State to earn eight points Tuesday to open the NB3 Matchplay at Twin Warriors, setting up a championship opportunity on Golf Channel Wednesday versus No. 17 Arizona.
"Everybody played well," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "Match play is a totally different deal and the ebbs and flows of it is something you have to experience. The fact that we won four out of five matches in both matches today was great and it is really hard to do. We have a really good Arizona team in front of us tomorrow and this group is ready for the challenge."
Natalie Yen, Louise Reau and Scarlett Schremmer all went 2-0 during the first two rounds of the event, collecting six full points for the Aggies. All three were making their first collegiate match play debuts.
The Maroon & White is set to take on the Wildcats with Golf Channel coverage going from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Texas A&M is seeking its third tournament title of the season with the win.
New Mexico Match
The Aggies collected the first point of the day when Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio turned in a dominant 4&3 victory over New Mexico's Chelsea Truong. Fernandez Garcia-Poggio went down in her match after the second hole but then won 4-of-6 holes from Nos. 12-17 to take complete advantage. The junior finished things off on No. 5 after a shotgun start where her day began on No. 9.
Yen followed that up with 2UP victory for the team to take a 2-0 advantage. Yen never trailed in her match with Maria Caparrós Levin and went up by as many as three holes. The clincher came from Reau in her debut for the Aggies where she took the lead with six holes remaining and tied the rest coming in for a 1UP triumph over Rebecca Galasso.
Schremmer won her first collegiate match 1UP as well shortly after Reau put the match away. Schremmer's round was highlighted by a hole out from 75 yards for eagle on the par-5, No. 12. Brynn Kort fell in her bout, 1UP, which gave the Aggies a 4-1 victory over the Lobos.
New Mexico State Match
Vanessa Borovilos took the morning match off after traveling back from World Amateur Team Championship in Singapore this past weekend and immediately went to work against Isa Laulhé with three-straight birdies. The sophomore would continue that dominance all the way to a 5&4 win to get her team on the board.
Reau somehow turned in an even larger margin of victory than Borovilos with a 7UP win against Emma Thompson. Reau won the final four holes of the match to earn the second point for the Aggies.
Yen took on No. 54 amateur in the world Emma Bunch and won 1UP to secure the match win and another point for the team. Bunch stormed back on Yen at the end, going 5-under thru the final eight holes to get to 1 down. However, the freshman held her off and tied the last two holes to take the match and the point.
Schremmer posted an epic comeback versus Alexandria Armendariz, going down by as many as three holes. The freshman won four of the final six holes to earn the comeback, 1UP, and the eighth point of the day for the Aggies heading into Wednesday's final match.
Fernandez Garcia-Poggio dropped her bout 3&2 to make the final count 4-1 in favor of the Aggies.
