Former collegiate and professional soccer standout Tom Milroy has coordinated the strength and conditioning programs for the soccer, swimming and diving and women’s tennis teams at Texas A&M since 2014.
An Aberdeen, Scotland native, Milroy arrived in College Station after working as an assistant athletic performance coach at the University of Portland in 2014. His primary possibility with the Pilots was working with the men’s and women’s track & field squads and the men’s and women’s tennis teams. He also put in work with men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, crew and women’s volleyball.
Prior to Portland, Milroy worked collegiately at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., as a graduate assistant from August 2011 to May 2013 and an intern at Oregon State University (working with football, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s swimming) in Corvallis, Ore., from September 2010 to May 2011.
Milroy received soccer-specific strength and conditioning experience working as a performance coaching intern at Athletes Performance LA from May 2013 to August 2013, working with the MLS’ LA Galaxy and assisting with performance testing procedures for the United States Men’s National Team.
A former collegiate athlete, Milroy was a four-year letterwinner as a soccer player at Montana State University-Billings (2006-09). He was the Yellowjackets’ team captain and Most Valuable Player his last three seasons. Milroy was a three-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection and sported the highest male student-athlete GPA in the GNAC in 2009-10.
Prior to arriving in the United States, he played with the professional academy youth soccer teams for Elgin City and Montrose FC in Scotland. He was selected for the Scottish National U14 and U16 development squads. After college, Milroy had brief stints with professional teams in Scotland and England, as well as spending two seasons with the Cascade Surge of the Premier Development League in the United States.
Forever advancing in his trade, Milroy has received numerous certifications. He earned a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Coaching ‘D’ License in 2010. In 2011 he garnered a Level I Sports Coach certification from USA Weightlifting and in 2012 he was classified as a National Strength Coaches Association Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Last year, Milroy earned a Prozone Level 1 certification and Functional Movement Systems Level 2 certification.
Milroy owns a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance from Montana State-Billings, where he graduated Magna cum Laude with a 3.88 grade-point average. He followed up with Master of Science degree in Human Performance from Lindenwood.
