COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 15 Texas A&M men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Ole Miss Sunday afternoon at the George P Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend consolation match. The Aggies fell to 1-2 on the season, while the Rebels improved to 2-1 on the year.
The Aggies dropped the doubles point to open the match for the third straight match. No. 7 Max Lunkin and Arthur Rinderknech fell 6-3 to No. 13 Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton followed by Aleksandre Bakshi and AJ Catanzariti claiming their first ranked doubles win together, 6-4, over No. 57 Gustav Hansson and Tim Sandkaulen. The visitors clinched the point with a 6-4 win by Zvonimir Babic and Ricardo Jorge over Jordi Arconada and Valentin Vacherot.
For the second straight day the Aggies split first sets across the six singles courts, winning the opening stanza on courts two, four and five. Vacherot evened his weekend ledger at 1-1, besting Babic swiftly 6-2, 6-2 on court five. Following Vacherot's win, the Aggies took their first lead of the match as Catanzariti picked up his first ranked win of the year, topping No. 82 Sandkaulen 6-3, 6-4 on court two.
The Texas A&M advantage did not last long as Ole Miss evened the score at two-all as Jorge bested Bakshi, 6-4, 6-3 on court three. The Aggies were able to bounce back and regain the advantage, Arconada won his second three-setter in as many days, topping Fallert 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on court four. Ole Miss once again tied the match as No. 14 Hansson defeated No. 16 Rinderknech 7-6(1), 2-6, 6-1 on the top court. The Rebels claimed the win as Hamilton defeated James Martell, 7-6(4), 6-7(4), 6-4 on court six.

On today's match…
"Give Ole Miss a lot of credit for the way they played today. Today was a match between two teams that had disappointing 4-3 matches yesterday. Once again the doubles came back to haunt us a little bit. We were not able to secure that point and we have a little bit of work to do there to shore that up. It made the match an uphill battle again today. Our guys did a great job fighting and we just couldn't quite get over the hump and finish on a couple courts were we had chances to win. This is something that happens sometimes early in the year, hopefully our guys will learn from this and get better as the season goes on."
On AJ Catanzariti's win…
"AJ had been struggling early this spring and it was really good to see him play aggressive again. That was how he played in the fall, hopefully that gives him some confidence moving forward."
On Jordi Arconada's day…
"Jordi is a fighter and hangs in there and battles. Things were not necessarily looking good for him all match, but he hung in there and fought to earn a win against a solid opponent. His belief system really comes in to play a lot, he thinks he can in those situations and he showed a lot character out there today. Winning two three-set matches in a row is going to give him a lot of confidence moving forward."
On Valentin Vacherot's weekend…
"Valentin came back from a tough match yesterday to get a really good win for the team. I anticipate our freshman just to get better and better as the season goes on. Val has a big game and once he gets settled in I think he will be a major contributor for us. We had a chance to put him out there in the doubles and I think they helped settle him into the match a little bit. In our previous two matches he did not play doubles and then he had to go out and play singles and got into a rocky start. Today, he came out in singles playing really well and got us an early point to put a little bit of scoreboard pressure onto Ole Miss."
