Roa Called Up to Major Leagues

MIAMI – Former Texas A&M pitcher Christian Roa is set to make his Major League Baseball debut after the Miami Marlins selected his contract Saturday morning.
Roa, who was taken in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds, will become the 68th Aggie to make their MLB Debut. The Houston native follows Jake Palisch (Chicago White Sox), Brandyn Garcia (Seattle Mariners) and Nolan Hoffman (Philadelphia Phillies) as the fourth Aggie to make their big league debut this season.
In 47 games this season for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Triple-A), Roa has compiled a 9-2 record to go along with a 2.83 ERA. The righty has also totaled 61 strikeouts to 28 walks in 57.1 innings pitched and has limited opposing batters to a .174 batting average.
Across his five-year minor league career, Roa has registered a 4.21 ERA in 376.0 innings with 447 strikeouts.
In three seasons in Aggieland, Roa appeared in 35 games and started 15, compiling a 4.25 ERA. The right-hander boasted a 5-3 record and collected 93 strikeouts over 82.2 innings pitched in the Maroon & White.
Roa becomes the 11th Aggie to make an appearance in the MLB this season, joining Garcia, Michael Helman (Texas Rangers), Hoffman, Stephen Kolek (Kansas City Royals), Corbin Martin (Baltimore Orioles), Bryce Miller (Seattle Mariners), A.J. Minter (New York Mets), Palisch, Brooks Raley (New York Mets) and Michael Wacha (Kansas City Royals).
The Marlins continue their series at home against the Phillies Saturday afternoon at 3:10 p.m. from LoanDepot Park.
