Oct 22, 2025 | Football
BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's all-time winningest head football coach R.C. Slocum was announced as a member of the 2025 SEC Football Legends class presented by T-Mobile, an assemblage of former football standouts who will be honored at events surrounding the SEC Football Championship Game in Atlanta in December.
Slocum coached the Texas A&M football program for 14 seasons from 1989-2002. He remains the winningest coach in the school history with a 123-47-2 record and he never had a losing season. His teams won four conference championships, with three straight Southwest Conference crowns from 1991-93 and the Big 12 Conference title in 1998. Slocum is the SWC's all-time leader in career winning percentage and set the record for consecutive conference victories with 26 from 1991-94.
He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012, and he's also a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. Slocum served two years on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. An influential member of the American Football Coaches Association, Slocum served on the AFCA Board of Trustees from 2001-17, including a stint as President. After his coaching career was over, Slocum was twice asked to serve as Texas A&M's interim Director of Athletics in 2019 and 2022.
The 2025 Football Legends class includes 16 former stars who excelled on the gridiron and helped write the rich history of the sport at their respective institutions. This year's class includes a Heisman Trophy winner, national champions, All-Americans, All-SEC selections, Academic All-Americans and NFL standouts. The group represents teams that won SEC Championships, claimed Super Bowl titles and are represented in state, school and college football halls of fame.
The class will be honored at the 2025 SEC Football "Weekend of Champions" December 5-6 in Atlanta, highlighted by the annual SEC Legends Celebration presented by T-Mobile on Friday, December 5 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The group will also be recognized prior to the SEC Football Championship Game, which will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, December 6.
