Oct 20, 2019 | Men's Tennis
HOUSTON –Texas A&M men's tennis won a pair of titles at the Rice Fall Invitational as Austin Abbrat and Guido Marson earned finals wins at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on the campus of Rice University Sunday.
"It's never easy to win a tournament or your draw in these college tournaments," assistant coach Kevin O'Shea said. "It's the first time Austin [Abbrat] and Guido [Marson] have been able to accomplish that feat. Huge congratulations to both of them, we want them to build on this and continue to play great tennis this fall."
Marson, a sophomore from Pordenone, Italy, earned his first collegiate title as he defeated Wesley Barnett of Rice, 6-3, 6-1, to compete a perfect weekend in the Bayou City.
Abbrat, a sophomore playing near his hometown of Spring, posted a 7-5, 6-3 win over Pasal Lorieul of A&M-Corpus Christi to earn the Aggies' second trophy of the day.
A&M freshman Stefan Storch fell to Alan Sau Franco of Texas-Arlington in the final of his draw. In doubles play, Abbrat and Marson were tripped up in the final against Hayden and Sau Franco of UTA.
Other schools represented at the tournament were Rice, Louisiana, Incarnate Word, Laredo College, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, UTA and UTSA.
