May 21, 2016 | Softball
LAFAYETTE, La. – The 16th-ranked Texas A&M softball team defeated Boston University, 6-0, behind a complete-game performance from freshman pitcher Samantha Show in the Aggies' first elimination game of the day on Saturday at Lamson Park.
Show struck out eight in her fourth complete-game shutout of the season, giving up only three hits to move to 24-9 on the season.
The Aggies (38-19) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, scoring all five runs in the second on five hits and two errors. Senior Cali Lanphear was hit by a pitch and moved to second with her 11th stolen base on the season. Show drove in Lanphear with a single up the middle, and later scored on a sophomore Erica Russell single to center field.
After a freshman Keeli Milligan walk, freshman Kaitlyn Alderink recorded an infield single, but a throwing error by Boston shortstop Brittany Younan allowed Russell to come across, moving Milligan and Alderink to scoring position. Sophomore Tori Vidales capped off the inning with a two-RBI single to left.
Milligan led off the fourth with an infield single and stole her 53rd base of the season, before advancing to third on a throwing error. Vidales plated Milligan with an RBI single up the middle to give Texas A&M a 6-0 advantage.
Texas A&M and Texas began game five of the NCAA Lafayette Regional at 4:44 p.m. on ESPN2. The winner of the game will face UL-Lafayette on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
