The winningest coach in SWC history with a 239-158 SWC record, Metcalf coached SWC Championship teams in 1964, ’69, ’75, ’76, ’80 & ’86. He coached a record 27 seasons at A&M. Metcalf coached 15 Consensus All-SWC Players with 18 players drafted by the NBA. His 1980 team made it to the Final 16 Round before losing to the National Champion Lewisville. In 1989, Coach Metcalf was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Metcalf and his wife Janis, have one daughter, Shelley. Coach Metcalf earned his doctorate in Recreation & Resource Development from A&M in 1974.
