After enjoying a fantastic prep career at Galveston Ball High School, Barry K. “BK” Davis joined the Aggie basketball squad and helped them capture back to back conference titlesi in 1975 and 1976. During the 1975 season, Davis helped the Aggies finish with a 20-7 record, Becoming the first team in A&M history to post a 20-0 win season. After posting such an impressive mark, the Aggies also participated in the NCAA tournament. Following the season, Davis was awarded for his skill and leadership on the hardwood, as he was picked consensus All-SWC and team co-MVP. Neither Davis noer the SWC champions rested on their laurels as they continued their winning ways in procuring their second straight conference crown with a 21-6 overall record to go along with their 14-2 mark in league play. From 1975 to 1976, Davis and basketball mate Sonny Parker led A&M to a record of 41-13. Davis was drafted by the Houston Rockets in 1976 and later played professional ball in Europe. After receiving his degree in 1976, Davis served as graduate assistant for the A&M basketball team during the 1976-77 season under Shelby Metcalf. In 1979, BK was promoted to full time assistant coach and helped the Aggies to a successful run over the next four years. During this time, the basketball team enjoyed three 20- win seasons, including the incredible season of 1978 when the Aggies went 26-8 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
