
Soccer Treks to Oklahoma for Sunday Clash with the Sooners

NORMAN – The Texas A&M soccer team makes its first trip to Joe Crain Field since 2009 when the Aggies battle the Oklahoma Sooners in Sunday's 2 p.m. match.
Texas A&M (4-5-3, 1-4-0 SEC) is riding high after Thursday's 1-0 victory over Texas in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown. Trinity Buchanan scored the game-winner in the 68th minute while the Maroon & White held the Longhorns without a shot on goal for the first 86 minutes.
Buchanan leads the Aggies with four goals, and she has added two assists for a total of 10 points. Leah Diaz also has 10 points with three goals and four assists. Kayle Noble has nine points on three goals and three assists.
Bella Yakel has played all 1,080 minutes to lead the Aggies. The center back entered the campaign as the most seasoned Texas A&M player, having accumulated 4,132 minutes during her three seasons at Portland. The senior defender has 69 Division I camps on her résumé, including 61 starts.
Freshman Riley Crooks is not far behind, starting all 12 matches on the A&M backline. The Huntington Beach, California, native ranks second on the squad with 1,050 minutes played and she has logged one assist.
The Aggies boast a 17-3-0 edge in the all-time series, but the teams are an even 3-3-0 in the six meetings since 2009. In starting the series with 14 straight wins, Texas A&M outscored Oklahoma 43-7. The Maroon & White own a 6-1 advantage in Norman.
This marks the second bout as SEC brethren. Last season, the Sooners prevailed 2-1 at Ellis Field. All three goals were scored in the first 27 minutes. Ella Pappas put Oklahoma ahead in the 18th minute and Mia Pante equalized the match 40 seconds later. Michelle Pak scored the game winner in the 27th minute. The Aggies owned the shot advantage 10-7, including 6-4 in shots-on-goal.
Oklahoma started the season 7-0-1, but currently stand at 9-3-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the SEC. The non-conference run included victories over Creighton (4-1), Oklahoma State (4-1), East Texas A&M (4-0), Tulsa (4-1), Louisiana Tech (3-0), North Texas (1-0) and Omaha (5-1). The Sooners triumphed over Florida (2-1) and Alabama (3-1) in SEC with losses against Kentucky (2-1), Vanderbilt (3-0) and South Carolina (2-0).
