Jason Meyer struck out 10 over 8.1 innings of work, but Kansas State scored three runs in the top of the ninth to defeat No. 9 Texas A&M, 3-2, in front of 3,841 fans at Olsen Field.

Josh Dent singled to start the ninth for the Wildcats and after Meyer recorded a strikeout, he walked pinch-hitter Chris Carlson. Cliff Pennington replaced Meyer and coaxed a groundout for the second out of the inning. After a walk loaded the bases, Zach Saunders singled to right, plating two runs and tying the game. Doug Frame then took the mound for the Aggies and the first man he faced, Eli Rumler, singled to score the game-winner.

With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 36-15 overall and to 11-10 in Big 12 play. The Wildcats improved to 26-25 and 4-18.

Pennington (0-1) shouldered the loss, allowing one run on one hit in a third of an inning.

The Aggies scored first in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Erik Schindewolf singled up the middle and moved to second on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Pennington. After a groundout, Schindewolf scored from second when Austin Boggs' grounder went under the glove of KSU second baseman Jason Long and into right field.

A&M tacked on another single run in the bottom of the second. After John Infante's one-out double, he moved to third on a groundout by Travis Bartek. Wildcat starting pitcher Carlos Torres uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Infante to trot home.

After the second, Torres (6-6) settled in, retiring 14 straight from the third to the eighth. Torres tossed his second complete game of the season and allowed just five hits, while striking out two.

Game two of the three-game series will be played Saturday, with first pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Olsen Field.
