Jackson, Mavroulis Lead Aggies to 8-0 Win

Zach Jackson recorded his 10th win and 100th strikeout of the season and Coby Mavroulis went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI to lead No. 9 Texas A&M to a 8-0 win over Kansas State before 4, 335 fans at Olsen Field.
Jackson (10-3) tossed his fifth complete game of the season, scattering five hits and walking three. The 13 strikeouts he recorded ran his season total to 104 in 92.1 innings of work. Jackson is the first A&M hurler to reach the century mark in strikeouts since Casey Fossum (162) and Chance Caple (125) turned the trick in 1999.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 37-15 overall and to 12-10 in Big 12 play. The Wildcats dropped to 26-26 and 4-19.
The Aggies scored first in the bottom of the second. Mavroulis doubled off Kansas State starting pitcher Jim Ripley to start the inning. He scored one hitter later when Craig Stinson singled to left.
Mavroulis also started the bottom of the fourth with a double and scored on a single up the middle by Justin Ruggiano to earn the Aggies a 2-0 lead.
The Aggies doubled their lead in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs. Erik Schindewolf singled with one out and stole second. With two outs Cory Patton walked and Austin Boggs singled to score Schindewolf and move Patton to third. Mavroulis collected his third hit of the night - an infield single - to plate Patton.
Patton delivered a two-out, two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the A&M lead to 6-0. Both runs were unearned due to a pair of K-State errors in the inning.
The Aggies added two more tallies in the eighth on a RBI single by Boggs and a RBI fielder's choice by Mavroulis.
Texas A&M finished the game with 14 hits and spanked at least one safety in every inning except the first.
Ripley (4-7) shouldered the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits. He struck out six and walked three.
The series will conclude on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Olsen Field.
