Robert Ray fanned six through five innings and Cliff Pennington and Austin Boggs each had three hits to lead No. 13 Texas A&M to a 8-1 win over Houston before 4,524 fans at Olsen Field.

Ray improved to 2-1 on the season by pitching five scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and did not walk a man.

With the win, the Aggies improved to 30-9 while Houston dropped to 14-21.

Texas A&M returns to Big 12 Conference action this weekend when they host No. 18 Oklahoma. First pitch for the series opener on Friday is set for 7 p.m.

A&M jumped on Houston starter Shea Hancock for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Erik Schindewolf started the inning with a walk and Pennington and Boggs each singled. Boggs' single scored Schindewolf and an error by right fielder Patrick Breen on the play allowed Pennington to move to third. Pennington would later score on a groundout by Coby Mavroulis.

The Aggies chased Hancock the following inning by exploding for four more tallies. John Infante doubled and Brian Bowe walked to start the inning. Justin Vaclavik replaced Hancock and after allowing a bunt single to Travis Bartek, walked Schindewolf to force in a run. Pennington followed with a two-RBI single and Craig Stinson's single made the score 6-0.

Hancock (0-3) lasted one inning, plus two hitters, and allowed four runs - three earned - on three hits.

A sacrifice fly by Craig Stinson and a RBI double by Mavroulis stretched the A&M lead to 8-0 after six-complete innings.

An RBI single by Travis Tully in the top of the seventh cut the Huston deficit to 8-1.
