Aggies Explode for 15-1 Win over Bearkats

Cory Patton went 3-for-5 with five RBI to lead No. 21 Texas A&M to a 15-1 win over Sam Houston State at Holleman Field.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 4-0 on the season while Sam Houston dropped to 1-2-1.
A&M leadoff hitter Erik Schindewolf deposited the first pitch offered by Sam Houston starter Chris Gressett over the wall in right center to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Aggies manufactured a run with two outs in the second to chase Gressett (0-1) and increase their lead to 2-0. Craig Stinson doubled to right and scored one batter later when Austin Boggs singled up the middle.
A&M starter Dan Donaldson pitched the three scoreless innings before giving way to Jason Meyer.
Texas A&M sent 13 men to the plate and faced four different Sam Houston pitchers in the top of the fifth to score 10 runs and balloon their lead to 12-0. Patton did half of the damage in the inning as he connected on a two-run double and a three-run homer in the frame.
Sam Houston scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI groundout by Josh Aranda to make the score 12-1.
The Aggies tacked on three more runs in the top of the eighth. Stinson's RBI double plated Stephen Holdren, who walked earlier in the inning. The next hitter, Austin Boggs hit a two-run homer over the left-center field fence. The dinger was the first of Boggs' career.
Jason Meyer (2-0) earned the win by pitching the middle innings. Meyer struck out two and allowed four hits.
Kyle Marlatt and Kevin Whelan made their first appearance of 2004 on the mound for the Aggies. Marlatt pitched a scoreless ninth and Whelan struck out two batters in the scoreless ninth.
The Aggies return to action this weekend with a three-game series with South Alabama. The first game of the series will be played Friday, Feb. 20, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. at Olsen Field.
