Aggies Defeat TAMU-CC in Extra Innings in First Game of Doubleheader

Coby Mavroulis drove in Cliff Pennington with no outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give No. 21 Texas A&M a 4-3 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Olsen Field.
Pennington and Cory Patton began the inning with back-to-back singles off Corpus Christi reliever Jorge Huerta. A passed ball then moved both runners into scoring position to set up Mavroulis' heroics.
Mavroulis finished the day 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.
A&M-Corpus Christi scored first off A&M starter Justin Moore in the top of the third. Three consecutive singles by Casey Buaas, Jamie Landin and Mike Schlekewy loaded the bases. Jose Rodriguez then lifted a flyball to right field, scoring Buass and giving the Islanders a 1-0 lead.
The Aggies answered in the bottom of the third when Cliff Pennington hit his first homer of the season over the wall in right. The long ball was the second of Pennington's career and tied the game at one apiece.
Coby Mavroulis gave Texas A&M a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth with a lead off homer - his first of the season.
The Islanders regained the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. Buaas singled and Landin followed with a double that pushed Buass to third. Schlekewy singled to right to plate Buaas and Landin and make the score 3-2.
Texas A&M answered the call again in the bottom of the fifth to score a run and tie the game at three. Erik Scindewolf led off with a single and Islanders' starting pitcher Mike Hatfield walked Pennington and Patton to load the bases. Mavroulis drove in his second run of the game with a groundout to first.
Moore lasted six-complete innings and allowed seven hits while striking out two. Austin Creps and Jason Meyer kept the Islanders at bay the rest of the way. Meyer earned the win and improved to 1-0.
Huerta (0-2) suffered the loss after allowing the three hits and one run in 1.2 innings of work.
