Coach Kurt Henry's groups stood out during the Aggies 2025 campaign, as they played a pivotal role in securing the Aggies' 10th NCAA National title and first SEC men's indoor conference title. On the individual level, Jaiya Covington and coach Kurt put the nation on notice, as he helped guide the junior to the NCAA title in the indoor 60m hurdles. Covington became the first Aggie woman to win the event, doing so in a school-record time of 7.90. She also impressed outdoors, placing second in the 100m hurdles, while tacking on a pair of bronze medals in the short hurdle events at the SEC Championships. The hurdlers impressive campaign didn't stop there, as Kurt Henry's coaching helped to develop Ja'Qualon Scott into the nation's most versatile hurdler, as he placed second in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a school-record mark of 48.29, while also qualifying to the national meet in the 110m hurdles and being named a First Team All-American in the indoor 60m hurdles. Henry's impact on Scott was also shown on the conference level, adding three SEC medals to his season tally in all three events. Henry's sprints group also made an impact on the 2025 season, as the dynamic duo of Jasmine Montgomery and Camryn Dickson accounted for 11 A--America honors and three SEC medals. Coach Kurt's group in totality during the 2025 season accounted for a staggering 17 All-America honors.
The 2024 season was a successful one for coach Kurt's group, as his hurdlers took the nation by storm. The dynamic duo of Connor Schuman and Ja'Qualon Scott lit up the conference at the indoor championships, as they finished 1-2 in the 60m hurdles, where Schulman tied the school record in the event with a time of 7.59. At the national meet, the pair both secured First Team All-America honors, but Scott captured the school record from his teammate after finishing third in 7.58. It was more of the same outdoors, as the pair each captured a conference medal in the 110m hurdles, with Scott placing second and Schulman third. Scott advance to the national meet, once again placing third and captured his second school record of the year after crossing the line in 13.15, a mark he would later lower to 13.09 at the Olympic Trials. Semira Killebrew stood out for the sprinters, taking down another school record this time in the 60m clocking a time of 7.16 at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Albuquerque, New Mexico, native is making his second stint at Texas A&M after serving as a volunteer assistant from 2014-17 primarily working with the men's sprint group, as well as assisting with the jumpers and hurdlers. During the 2017 season, the Aggies won the 2017 NCAA men's indoor national championship and finished runner-up at the NCAA men's outdoor championships.
Following the 2017 season, Henry was as an assistant coach at Wayland Baptist where he produced 34 NAIA All-Americans, including 14 national champions, in the sprints, jumps, relays and hurdles. His group set national indoor records for the men's 400m and men's 4x400m, as well as bettering five school records in the process. He helped coach Wayland to three indoor NAIA national team titles. Individually, Henry was the 2018 and 2019 USTFCCCA Outdoor Regional Assistant Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's teams.
A track standout himself, Henry ran sprints at New Mexico from 2005-09. He earned Mountain West All-conference honors in 2006 and 2007 as a member of the 4x400m relays. The 2007 squad won the Lobo's first men's 4x400m conference title in 20-years. He graduated in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in university studies with an emphasis on physical education and communication.
The nephew of current Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry, Henry comes from a family of track and field coaches. His father, Matt Henry, coached at New Mexico from 2000-2007, as well as his uncle Mark Henry. His grandfather Gwinn “Bub” Henry was an assistant track & field coach as well as working as the alumni director at New Mexico. His great-grandfather Gwinn Henry was New Mexico's head football coach from 1934-1936.
