Women’s Golf Surges at Jim West Challenge; Wins Third Tournament Title of Season
Oct 20, 2025 | Women's Golf
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 5 Texas A&M women's golf team erased a seven-stroke deficit to win the Jim West Challenge by one shot over Florida State Monday at the Kissing Tree Golf Club after shooting 13-under 275 in the final round.
"This was an amazing performance," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "We got off to such a great start and weathered the storm at the turn at 10, 11, 12 and 13. We also had a really strong finish to our back nine, which I think was the difference of the day. I am extremely proud of the team. That was fun to watch."
The Aggies were seven shots back of the Seminoles heading into the final round, and thanks to a 6-under 66 day from Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio, the Maroon & White put together the fourth-best team round in program history at 13-under 275. Texas A&M shot 15-under 849 thru three rounds, which was one shot better than FSU for the title.
The tournament championship was the third of the season for the Aggies and the 10th for Chadwell as the head coach of the Maroon & White, which is third most in program history. In the three victories, Texas A&M has featured three different lineups.
"Our depth is what is going to keep us competitive," Chadwell said. "It is really hard in our sport to have that kind of depth. The goal is to be playing deep into April and May and having so many interchangeable parts on our roster is exciting."
Fernández García-Poggio lit up the scorecard with red, knocking down eight birdies, including four in-a-row to start the round. The junior ended the week tied for fifth. Vanessa Borovilos posted another under-par round, carding a 2-under 70 to bring her 54-hole score to 8-under 208 and gave her a share of third to lead the team.
Natalie Yen and Louise Reau both tied for 23rd as Yen shot 3-under 69 and Reau fired a 2-under 70 on Monday to help seal the victory. Brynn Kort rounded out the lineup tied for 38th. Sky Sudberry, competing as an individual, produced a top-20 performance with a piece of 20th.
The Aggies return to the course at the Baylor One Day Tuesday, Oct. 28 to wrap up the fall season.
