Texas A&M senior swimmer Sarah Gibson was named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large Team and now becomes a candidate to earn Academic All-America honors, the organization announced on Thursday.
Gibson, who completed her bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, will be seeking CoSIDA Academic All-America honors for a second straight year. Already this year, the San Antonio native has earned the prestigious H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year award from the Southeastern Conference, the SEC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's swimming and diving and the Texas A&M Bill Erwin Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
She was just as successful in the pool, winning a trio of SEC individual titles while helping the Aggies to their second straight conference team championship in 2017. She was named the SEC Swimmer of the Meet and won the Commissioner's Trophy as the meet's high point scorer. At the NCAA Championships, she earned first-team All-American honors in the 100 and 200 butterfly, and she swam on all five of the Aggies' relays in NCAA Championships, including two runner-up finishes. In international competition, she earned three medals at the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in fall of 2016, including golds with Team USA's 200 and 400 medley relays.
