SERIES PREVIEW: Ole Miss
May 11, 2017 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 19 Texas A&M Aggies make their final regular-season road trip of the year as they travel to Oxford to battle the Ole Miss Rebels. Game times are slated for 6:32 pm on Friday, 6:02 pm on Saturday and 12:02 pm on Sunday.
With two weekends left in the regular-season, the Aggies trail league leaders Florida (16-8) and Mississippi State (16-8) by two games in the SEC standings. At 14-10 in league play, Texas A&M is tied with Auburn for fourth place in the highly competitive SEC Western Division trailing Mississippi State, LSU (15-9) and Arkansas (14-9).
The Aggies' weekend rotation had their best go-arounds the last three weeks against Tennessee, Missouri and Missouri State. Over the three times through the rotation, Brigham Hill, Corbin Martin and Stephen Kolek have combined to allow just 12 runs, eight earned, in 59.1 innings of work. The trio held opponents to a .190 batting average as they posted a 1.21 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 60 strikeouts.
Kolek has been outstanding in his last five starts. Over the span the northpaw has 45 strikeouts (3 BB/3 HBP) over 34.0 innings. His numbers over the span include a 1.32 ERA, 11.91 strikeouts per nine innings, 0.79 WHIP, .176 opponent batting average and 15.00 K-to-BB ratio.
The Aggies have been mauling teams in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, outscoring opponents 143-39 during the three frames. The surges have helped offset a slim 109-98 run advantage for the Aggies in innings 1-thru-4.
Braden Shewmake ranks 14th in the nation in RBI (57) and 15th in the nation in hits (73). He leads all Division I freshmen in hits and RBI.
The Saturday and Sunday games will air on the SEC Network. Dave Neal will handle play-by-play duties while Chris Burke provides color analysis.
All three games will be available for viewing on ESPN3/SEC Network +. ESPN3/SECNetwork + provides digital-only events to ESPN/SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One).
