SERIES PREVIEW: Brown
Mar 09, 2017 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies have their last weekend tune-up before starting SEC play as the Maroon and White host the Brown Bears in a three-game series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park beginning Friday evening.
Texas A&M owns a 10-1 record on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park in 2017. The Maroon and White boast a .339 batting average, .445 on-base percentage and .529 slugging percentage in home games. Nick Choruby is hitting .432 (16-for-17) with a .571 on-base percentage, 17 runs, two doubles, one home run, five RBI and four stolen bases at Blue Bell Park. Braden Shewmake is batting .408 (20-for-49) with 13 runs, six doubles, one triple, one home run, 17 RBI and five stolen bases in his 11 home games. Brigham Hill is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 13.2 innings of work in his two home starts
The Aggies currently lead the nation in triples (15) and triples per game (1.07). The current pace would give Texas A&M 60 after the regular-season, well over the school record of 32 set in 1982 and equaled in 1989. The Aggies' 15 triples are well ahead of the nearest teams on the list, Louisville and USC Upstate with nine apiece.
George Janca already has four three-baggers on the year, equaling the team-high from last season. Janca is tied with three other players for the national lead. Logan Foster has three triples on the year and Joel Davis, Blake Kopetsky and Shewmake each have two triples. The Aggies also rank 11th in the nation in doubles (34) with Shewmake ranked sixth in the nation, individually with eight two-baggers.
Every game of the series will be available for viewing on SEC Network + with Will Johnson and Mark Johnson on the call. SEC Network + provides digital-only events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). All three games will air on SportsRadio 1150/102.7 The Zone.
