COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies return to Austin for the first time since the 2012 season as they head to UFCU Disch-Falk Field Tuesday for a midweek game against the Texas Longhorns.
The Aggies and Longhorns have met four time since Texas A&M joined the Southeastern Conference following the 2012 campaign with Texas winning two of three games at the 2014 NCAA Houston Regional hosted by Rice and Texas A&M winning in walk-off fashion, 5-4, in College Station last season.
Both squads enter play on five-game win streaks. The Aggies took two midweek games against UT Rio Grande Valley and swept a three-game series against Brown. The Longhorns won midweek contests against Richmond and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and took three games against UCLA.
Six Texas A&M freshmen have combined to hit 93-for-219 (.379) with 63 runs, 18 doubles, seven triples, nine home runs and 56 RBI in the first 17 games of the season. The six freshmen combine on a .494 on-base percentage. Braden Shewmake, who earned SEC Freshman of the Week recognition for his performance the opening weekend, is hitting .397 (31-for-78) with 19 runs, eight doubles, two triples, two home runs and 23 RBI. Shewmake ranks second in the nation in hits, ninth in RBI, 11th in total bases (49) and 21st in doubles. Logan Foster is batting 26-for-69 (.377) with 25 runs, seven doubles, three triples, four home runs and 12 RBI. He earned SEC Freshman of the Week after his All-Tournament Team performance at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. Foster ranks third in the nation in runs, seventh in total bases (51) and eighth in triples.
The Aggies are hitting .354 (81-for-229) and own a .465 on-base percentage with runners in scoring position. Hunter Coleman owns a .714 on-base percentage with RISP, hitting .600 (6-for-10) with four walks, one double, one triple and seven RBI in 14 plate appearances. Gutierrez has a .688 on-base percentage with RISP, hitting .545 (6-for-11) with four walks, one HBP and two home runs. Among the everyday starters, Joel Davis leads the way with a .458 batting average (11-for-24) with five walks, three HBP, one double, one triple and 16 RBI and Shewmake is hitting .457 (16-for-35) with three walks, six doubles, one home run and 21 RBI.
