May 12, 2016 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Texas A&M junior swimmer Sarah Gibson was named the 2016 Academic All-District® team and now becomes a candidate for Academic All-America® honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
A repeat Academic All-District selection, Gibson, from San Antonio, Texas, carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average while pursuing a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering. Additionally this season, Gibson was named to the SEC Honor Roll for a third straight year and is in line to earn Scholar All-America honors for a second consecutive season from the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). She also received the Bill Erwin Scholar-Athlete Award at the recent Building Champions Awards.
It was also a banner season for Gibson in the pool as she won her first SEC individual title (in the 100-yard butterfly), earned NCAA runner-up honors (also in the 100 fly), broke two school records (100 fly and 200 free) and placed in the top 10 in seven races at the NCAA Championships. Gibson was named co-Team MVP at the Aggies' recent team banquet.
