
Texas A&M’s Thornton earns honorable-mention All-America honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – Texas A&M freshman diver Sam Thornton earned honorable mention All-America honors after finishing 16th in the one-meter springboard dive at the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center.
Thornton, from Baildon, United Kingdom, scored 334.25 points in the consolation final to secure 16th place and score a point for the Aggies. Thornton advanced to the consolation final after qualifying 14th with a 344.45 point total in the prelims.
In other action involving Texas A&M, sophomore swimmers Mauro Castillo Luna and Brock Bonetti placed 42nd and 49th, respectively, in the 200-yard IM. Castillo Luna turned in a time of 1:47.52, while Bonetti finished in 1:50.42.
