COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies open the 2016 season on Friday as they host the Hofstra Pride in a three-game series on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Every game of the series will be available for viewing on SEC Network + with Will Johnson and Mark Johnson on the call. SEC Network + provides digital-only events to SEC Network subscribers through WatchESPN and the ESPN app on smartphones, computers, tablets and connected devices (Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One). Friday's game can be heard locally on WTAW NewsTalk 1620. Saturday and Sunday's games will air on SportsRadio 1150/102.7 The Zone.
The Maroon and White boast four preseason All-Americans, including junior Nick Banks who garnered accolades on all four nationally recognized teams. Juniors Mark Ecker, Ronnie Gideon and Ryan Hendrix were each honored by one of the four organizations.
Texas A&M opens the season ranked in the top 5 of all five nationally recognized polls. The Aggies' No. 4 ranking in the USA Today Coaches Poll is the highest they have ever been slotted in the preseason. The No. 3 ranking in the Baseball America Top 25 is the highest Texas A&M has been ranked since opening the 2009 campaign ranked No. 1.
The Aggies look to build on the 2015 campaign which saw the Maroon and White go 50-14, including 18-10 in the SEC. Last season, Texas A&M extended its school-record string of NCAA Championship appearances to nine consecutive seasons and claimed their seventh NCAA Regional title.
On Sunday, Tyler Ivey is slated to take the mound for the Aggies. Ivey will be the first freshman pitcher to start a game in the opening weekend of the season for A&M since Barret Loux in 2008.
