Nov 18, 2016 | Women's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M women's tennis head coach Mark Weaver has announced that Tatiana Makarova has signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis for the Aggies and will join the squad next fall.
"I am delighted to welcome and announce the signing of Tatiana Makarova as the newest member of the Texas A&M Women's tennis team," Weaver said. "Tatiana comes in to our program with a wealth of international experience. She has won numerous ITF (International Tennis Federation) junior titles in both singles and doubles against some of the best junior players in the world. At a young age, she has already had a very successful start in her tennis career, and I am looking forward to watching her game continue to progress here at Texas A&M."
Makarova, from Odintsovo, Russia, has been a member of the Russian World Junior National Team throughout most of her career and has been as ranked as high as No. 123 in the ITF junior world rankings. The 16-year old has represented Russia at three European World Championships and was ranked as high as No. 3 in the European tennis rankings from 2013-15.
Weaver, in his second season at the helm of the Aggies, loses five seniors at the conclusion of the 2017 season: Rutuja Bhosale, Saska Gavrilovska, Stefania Hristov, Rachel Pierson and Mason Strickland.
