COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Rained continued to hamper the USTA/ITA Texas Regional hosted by Texas A&M at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The round of 32 singles matches were scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. today but were delayed until approximately 2 p.m. because of rain. The round was completed and the round of 16 matches were about to begin with round of 16 doubles matches slated to follow, but the rain returned. With rain forecast to be in the area for the rest of the evening, the decision was made to postpone play until tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
A&M won five of six matches contested today, with four players advancing to the singles round of 16. Senior Stefania Hristov gutted out a 7-5, 7-6 (1) victory over TCU's Alexis Pereira in the round of 32 to advance. Junior Rutuja Bhosale also moved on with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Lucile Pothier of Abilene Christian and will face Aggie freshman teammate Domenica Gonzalez, who posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alison Ho of Rice. Junior Saska Gavrilovska also will represent Texas A&M in the round of 16 after defeating Hortense Boscher of Texas A&M Corpus-Christi (TAMU-CC), 6-1, 6-4.
A&M senior Anna Mamalat narrowly missed out on advancing as she fell to Aleksandra Zenovka of TCU, 6-4, 6-7 (6), 10-4.
Aggie senior Ines Deheza got a win in the consolation bracket, defeating Jordan Henry of Abilene Christian, 6-0, 7-5.
The tournament continues through Monday, with the singles and doubles champions advancing to face other regional winners across the country at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 12-15, in Flushing, N.Y.
