Aggies Cruise Into Championship Game

No. 14 Texas A&M used an 18-hit attack to defeat Texas Southern, 12-1, and advanced to its 10th regional final in head coach Mark Johnson's 20 seasons before 3,613 fans at Reckling Park.
Every Aggies starter had at least one hit led by Erik Schindewolf, Cliff Pennington and Travis Bartek, who each had three. Schindewolf and designated hitter Matt Alexander drove in three runs.
Justin Moore (6-3) replaced A&M starter Kyle Marlatt to start the fourth and pitched six innings in relief. Moore allowed one run on four hits and did not walk a man. Marlatt left the game because of back stiffness.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 41-19 while Texas Southern dropped to 19-34.
The Aggies jumped on TSU starter Jesus Guerra for a pair of runs in the top of the first. Schindewolf and Pennington each singled to start the inning. After a deep fly to center by Cory Patton moved Schindewolf to third, each runner moved up a base on a balk by Guerra. Boggs then singled to score Pennington.
A&M added three more runs in the top of the second to increase its lead to 5-0. With two outs and nobody on, Schindewolf walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Pennington single. Pennington scored from first on a double down the line by Patton, who later scored on a single by Boggs.
A sacrifice fly by Alexander in the top of the third made the score 6-0. Alexander drove in John Infante, who reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a single by Travis Bartek.
The Aggies made the score 9-0 with three runs in the top of the sixth. Again with two outs and nobody on, Infante and Bartek each singled. Alexander drove in his second run of the game with a RBI double and Schindewolf drove in two runs with a single.
The Tigers scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single by Andre Nevels.
In the top of the ninth, Eric Scheidt doubled to right and scored on a single by John Infante. Infante advanced to second on an error by the centerfielder. Bartek singled Infante to third before Alexander's sacrifice fly to center scored Infante. Schindewolf doubled to plate Bartek.
