Aggies Drop Santa Clara, 12-2, in Series Opener

No. 12 Texas A&M pounded out 17 hits and every starter had a hit before the end of the fifth inning as the Aggies beat Santa Clara, 12-2, in front of 4,663 fans at Olsen Field.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 16-2 while Santa Clara dropped to 11-9.
A&M starting pitcher Justin Moore moved to 3-0 on the season as he allowed just two runs on seven hits. He struck out three and did not walk a man in six innings of work.
The Aggies took the lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Coby Mavroulis. The hit scored Erik Schindewolf, who walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a single by Cory Patton.
A&M increased its lead to 3-0 in the second when Schindewolf and Patton drove in runs with singles.
Justin Ruggiano lead off the third with a double and scored on a two-out single by John Infante to make the score 4-0.
The Broncos cut the lead to 4-1 in the top of the fourth when Mark Folgner's single plated Dustin Realini.
Texas A&M touched Santa Clara starter Chad Fillinger (3-3) for five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth. Ruggiano, Austin Boggs and Andrew Baldwin each had RBI in the inning. One run scored on a wild pitch and another scored on a catcher's interference with the bases loaded.
The Aggies pushed across three more runs in the fifth on a two-RBI triple by Cliff Pennington, who later scored on a sacrifice fly by Patton.
Folgner drove in Realini again in the top of the sixth to make the score 12-2.
Austin Creps replace Moore to start the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.
Game two of the series will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. at Olsen Field.
