COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 22 Texas A&M will
ring in the new year with an old opponent, the Rice Owls from Houston.
Tuesday's meeting will mark the 40th all-time meeting between the long-time
conference foes, the Aggies lead the all-time series 29-10 including wins in
the last two meetings.
Texas A&M and Rice faced off in 2010 at Tudor Field
House in Houston with the Aggies coming away victorious 80-40. Danielle Adams
had a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds to lead the contest in both
categories. Tyra White added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and was the only
other Aggie to score in double figures. The maroon and white forced 24 Owls
turnovers leading to 23 points off turnovers and out-rebounded the Owls 54-27
in the game.
The Aggies enter the New Year's Day contest with one of the
hottest players in the country in Junior Kelsey Bone. Bone has scored at least
15 points in each of the last six games and is averaging 23.8 points over the
scorching three week stretch. The Houston natives' game doesn't end with
scoring the basketball, Bone is also grabbing rebounds at an impressive rate
with at least seven rebounds in the previous six contest, averaging 9.5
rebounds in the six game streak. Bone's not only poured in the points and
dominated the boards against Prairie View as she dished out a career high six
assists in only 23 minutes.
Against Prairie View A&M last Friday night the Aggies
started the game with an impressive stretch of nine assists on each of the
first nine Aggie field goals. The team offense did not end there as the
maroon and white finished with 23 assists on the night, just one shy of the
season high set just over a week ago against Old Dominion in Las Vegas. Texas
A&M has had at least 19 assists in each of the last four games and is averaging
an impressive 22.3 assists per game in that stretch.
