BRYAN, Texas - The
fourth-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team (3-2, 0-2 SEC) hosts Fresno State
(RV) Saturday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
The meet will get underway at 10 a.m. when equitation over
fences and horsemanship take to the arenas simultaneously. Equitation on the
flat and reining will follow at noon and 12:15, respectively.
The Aggies last hosted SMU in a hunt seat show and TCU in a
western meet at the BVEC on Oct. 26. A&M took a win in both meets and improved
to 3-2 on the season. Haley Buchmiller (Flat), Shelby Lawson (Fences), Laura
Brainard (Horsemanship) and Ashley Skold (Reining) helped the Aggies to a sweep
of the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) awards on the day. A&M now owns 11 of
a possible 16 MOP awards after five meets.
Senior Emily Williams, the only Southeastern Conference
rider in any discipline with a perfect 4-0 record, took the first-ever SEC Over
Fences Rider of the Month honor last week. Three of her four victories were
against top-10 teams, including an MOP ride at No. 1 Georgia.
The Aggies and Bulldogs have met eight times in the varsity
equestrian format, with A&M taking every show for an 8-0 overall record.
The last show between the two teams was in the NCEA National Championship in
Waco when A&M rode to a 6-2 first-round hunt seat victory and an 8-0
western quarterfinal win in Waco.
The Bulldogs have not competed yet this season, but face off
with SMU today before traveling to Baylor for a Friday meet. Collins Daye leads
Fresno State in her first year as head coach with the team.
Up next, the Aggies will travel to the American Quarter
Horse Association (AQHA) Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge in Oklahoma City on
Scoring updates throughout the meet will be provided through
