Steve Greene begins his fourth season as assistant coach at Texas A&M in 2014, providing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program.
Greene, a native of Orange County, Calif., primarily works with the Aggie setters and serves as recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M in addition to other assistant coaching duties. Under his guidance, Texas A&M setter Allie Sawatzky was named AVCA All-American honorable mention for the consecutive year in 2013, and the Aggies’ 2014 freshman class was ranked the 17th best recruiting class in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com.
Before being hired at A&M in 2011, Greene was an assistant coach at Houston Baptist University for two seasons, joining the Huskies program after serving two years as assistant coach at California State University Monterey Bay.
After a sub-.500 season in his first year with the Huskies, Greene helped transition HBU to a 17-13 record in 2010. In addition, he was instrumental in the program landing four players during the early signing period, marking the largest early signing class in the history of the program.
Greene, 36, began his career as an assistant coach in 2000 at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif., and helped lead the Monarchs to two state titles and three national top-10 finishes. In 2002, he left Archbishop Mitty to start the volleyball program and serve as head coach at Saint Francis High School in Watsonville, Calif.
Greene was named head coach at Notre Dame High School in Salinas, Calif., in 2004 and served for three seasons before joining the staff at CSU Monterey Bay. While at Notre Dame, Greene was named Monterey County Coach of the Year and earned the Central Coast Section Championship coach award in 2004.
Greene also coached at the club level from 2002-07 with Main Beach, Salinas Valley and Vision Volleyball Clubs until founding Sensation Volleyball Club in 2006.
Greene was the setter and team captain at Irvine Valley College from 1997-98 and 1999-2000. He earned a degree in kinesiology from CSU Monterey Bay in 2008.
Greene is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and he has earned IMPACT Coaching Certification from USA Volleyball.
He is married to the former Alyson Converse, who is a writer. The couple has one child, son Darwin Converse Greene, who was born Oct. 24, 2012.
