KATY, Texas – Texas A&M equestrian junior Leah Chenelle finished the day in fifth place in the quarterfinal round at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Collegiate Invitational, Sunday at Tellepsen Arena.
Chenelle was edged by Fresno State’s Belle Calkin, who outscored the Aggie junior 82-79 on Gentleman Jack. Calkin advances to the semifinal round, where she will face Delaware State rider Carlin Savage.
“I was really proud of the way Leah competed today,” Texas A&M Hunter Seat Coach Linzy Woolf said. “She was in a group of the best riders in the nation and gained some really valuable experience in the ring.”
Chenelle returns to College Station to prepare for the Southeastern Conference Championships, hosted by South Carolina in Blythewood, S.C., March 28-29. The fourth-seeded Aggies will face No. 1 seed USC in the first round at 9:30 a.m. CT/8:30 ET on Friday.
