COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M equestrian junior Leah Chenelle is set to compete in the Fourth Annual Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Collegiate Invitational at 3:30 p.m. CT Sunday at Tellepsen Arena in Katy, Texas.
Chenelle will represent Texas A&M as she competes in equitation over fences against riders from seven other universities across the country. The Hebron, Conn., native will face Fresno State’s Belle Calkin in the quarterfinal round of the bracket-play championship.
Using National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) formatting, riders will complete the course on the same horse as their competitor, and the rider with the highest score will advance to the next round. Chenelle will be the eighth and final rider to show in the quarterfinals, and Calkin will compete fourth. Horses are on loan and are unknown to the riders until the day of the event. The semifinal and championship rounds will also take place on Sunday.
Chenelle is a team captain who recorded three wins against top-10 teams this season in equitation over fences, topping No. 3 South Carolina, No. 5 TCU and No. 6 Georgia. Her 79.40 score average is a team best among Aggie fences riders, and her score of 88 against No. 9 SMU was the Aggies’ highest over fences score of the year.
