BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The No. 10 Texas A&M equestrian team fell to the top ranked South Carolina Gamecocks, Saturday on the road at OneWood Farm to close out regular season Southeastern Conference competition.

The final score put South Carolina up 11-6, and despite leading with a total raw score of 1482.5-1460.5, the Aggies drop to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the SEC.

"Today's loss was tough on our team," Head Coach Tana McKay said. "We had a chance to win it early, and then we fell behind and couldn't recover. We need a win at home against Oklahoma State in March to end this season on a high note before we come back to South Carolina for SECs."

The Aggies split the reining competition 2-2 with the Gamecocks to start the day. Earning Most Outstanding Player (MOP) in the event, senior Lindsey Bernbaum bested USC’s Cody McMillion 69-65.5. Teammate junior Laura Sumrall took the win over Jordan Brown of USC 69.5-69 for the second Aggie point in reining.

The Gamecocks quickly jumped ahead with a sweep of the equitation over fences. In the Horsemanship, A&M took three wins to South Carolina’s two. For the Aggies, junior Molli Jacobs took down USC’s Bailey Mierzejewski 73-70.5, sophomore Logan Pluhar defeated Katie Kopf 74.5-73.5, and senior Laura Brainard overtook Kelsey Urban 73-0.

Starting equitation on the flat in exhibition, A&M’s freshman Avery Farley defeated Erin Fry 78-67. Scoring the lone point in the event was sophomore Marlena Parker, who grabbed an 84-80 win over Adele Norton. Two Aggies tied in the flat competition with senior Paige Russell matching Kelsey Hart at 75 and junior Haley Buchmiller with an amazing performance scoring 90 to tie Alexa Anthony’s mark.

The A&M equestrian team will be in action again on Saturday, Mar. 8, as it hosts No. 6 Oklahoma State for the first competition at the new Hildebrand Equine Complex. To learn more about the team, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
