COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 10 Texas A&M equestrian team (2-5, 1-3 SEC) rides at No. 3 Auburn (7-2, 2-1 SEC) this Saturday at the Auburn University Horse Center. The Aggies and Tigers face off at 1 p.m. CT in the Southeastern Conference meet.
“We are ready to get back to competition after a week off as a team,” Head Coach Tana McKay said. “We’ve been riding well against conference teams, but are coming up short by one point or tying with our opponents. Our goal for Auburn is to come out strong and keep the momentum going through the entire meet to come home with a win.”
The Aggies’ last meet was at home against Georgia on Feb. 1, ending in a 9-10 loss for Texas A&M. The team’s three SEC losses are by a combined two points. Sophomore Marlena Parker earned Most Outstanding Player accolades for her ride in equitation over fences.
The third-ranked Tigers are coming off of a loss to Oklahoma State in Dover, Del., on Feb. 1. The close, 9-11 loss was only the team’s second of the season.
Texas A&M and Auburn last met in the fall at the Brazos County Expo Complex where the teams tied, 10-10 but the Tigers took the victory on the raw score tiebreaker. Auburn leads the all-time series against Texas A&M, 5-2.
After a final road meet at No. 1 South Carolina next weekend, the Aggies will begin competition in their new home. The Thomas G. Hildebrand DVM ’56 Equine Center, located at the north corner of F&B Road and FM-2818, will be christened on March 8 when the team hosts Oklahoma State in their final competition of the regular season.
