BRYAN, Texas – The No. 9 Texas A&M equestrian team tied with No. 3 Auburn, 10-10, but lost the raw score tiebreaker, 1576.75-1534.75, Sunday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

With the loss, the Aggies fall to 2-4 overall, and 1-2 in Southeastern Conference action. The Tigers improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in league competition. Despite the narrow defeat, Texas A&M won three of four events and earned three Most Outstanding Player (MOP) awards on the day, from Haley Buchmiller (flat), Laura Brainard (horsemanship) and Sarah Kate Grider (reining).

This marked the Aggies’ final competition in the BCEC, after moving into the facility at the beginning of the 2008 season. Texas A&M will return from its winter hiatus on Feb. 1, hosting Georgia at the brand new Thomas G. Hildebrand DVM ’56 Equine Complex.

“Our riders really came out ready to compete today,” Head Coach Tana McKay said. “It was tough to lose in the tiebreaker, but to win three events and tie the meet with Auburn was indicative of our fight. We look forward to moving into the Hildebrand Equine Complex for the spring half of the season.”

The meet started in the South Arena, where Auburn took a 4-1 lead after equitation over fences. Kimmy Saul had the lone victory for the Aggies in over fences, defeating her opponent 76-74.

Equitation on the flat and horsemanship competed simultaneously in separate arenas, and after the two events Auburn led by just one point at 8-7.

In horsemanship, the Aggies got out to a quick two-point lead after wins by Molli Jacobs and Logan Pluhar. Brainard produced the third and final A&M horsemanship win, picking up Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honors for the second time this season with a score of 75.

Texas A&M also won flat 3-2, with wins from Buchmiller, Paige Russell and Marlena Parker, to bring the Aggies within one point in the meet total. Buchmiller scored a 92 for MOP accolades, and Parker added a 91 for a pair of impressive Aggie flat tallies. Buchmiller’s MOP was her first of the season, and her high mark was a 2013-14 personal best for the junior.

With the meet on the line and Auburn leading 8-7, the competition entered reining – the final event. A win from the Tigers’ Katsy Leeman put the visitors ahead by two, but a pair of quick victories by Lindsey Bernbaum and Ashley Skold tied the meet at 9-9. Auburn earned its second win of the event to regain the lead, but Grider topped her opponent by 2.5 to earn the first MOP award of her career and make the final score a 10-10 tie. Auburn’s raw score ensured a 42-point tiebreaker victory, however, and the Tigers earned their third win of the weekend after defeating Baylor on Friday and SMU Saturday.
