BRYAN, Texas - The sixth-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team (5-5, 1-4 SEC) earned its first-ever Southeastern Conference victory with a 10-7 win over No. 2 Auburn (8-2, 4-2 SEC) Friday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.

The Aggies avenged a loss to the Tigers earlier this season with the win, and will close out regular-season competition with a home meet with No. 1 Georgia on Friday, March 8.

The teams competed in the North Arena only, with disciplines riding one at-a-time. Equitation over fences was the first to compete, followed by horsemanship, equitation on the flat and reining.

Auburn earned a narrow 3-2 victory in over fences, and the Aggies picked up wins from Marlena Parker and Emily Williams.

A 3-1 A&M win in horsemanship propelled the Aggies into a 5-4 lead after Molli Jacobs, Laura Brainard and Amanda Brightwell each bested their opponents in the event. Brainard won her fourth Most Outstanding Player (MOP) award of the season.

In flat, Auburn earned a point first to even the meet total at 5-5 before the Aggies took three straight rides and tied in the last to earn a 3-1 flat victory and take an 8-5 lead on the Tigers.

The meet came down to the final event, reining, and A&M secured an overall victory with a 2-2 tie in that discipline. Becca Murray and Ashley Skold rode first and their wins were all the Aggies needed to nab their first SEC win.

The No. 6 Aggies close out the regular season at home next weekend with a 10 a.m. Friday meet with No. 1 Georgia at the Brazos County Expo Complex. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
