COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Three incoming freshmen on the Texas A&M equestrian team enter their first year of collegiate competition with major summer titles.

Logan Pluhar (Canyon, Texas) took the world reining title at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Championship Show on Aug. 9, while Mayers Lindley (Tomball, Texas) was the Reserve World Champion in showmanship at the same event. Jennie Edwards (Jacksonville, Fla.) won the Virginia Horse Show Association (VHSA) Championship on the flat.

Pluhar had an impressive 219 showing in the preliminary round of the AQHYA World Show, before using a 217.5 score to take the title on her horse Rolex N Chex. Lindley competed against the largest class, a group of 196 entrants, at the world championships, and was awarded two first and two second place ratings to bring home a Reserve Champion title.

The AQHYA World Championship Show is the premier event for American Quarter Horse exhibitors around the world, ages 18-and-under. Competitors must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points. This year, more than 2,400 riders from the U.S., Canada, England, Germany and Venezuela descended on Oklahoma City for the event.

Edwards took the VHSA Championship title on the flat on Aug. 11. To qualify, riders must win a qualifying class twice over the course of a year, or earn 70 points in competitions. Edwards won the championship against a class of 20 qualifiers at the Lexington National Horse Show at the Virginia Horse Center.

The Aggies will ride in front of a home crowd on Sept. 15 in the annual Maroon & White Scrimmage, before heading to Brookings, S.D., to face South Dakota State in the first show of the season on Sept. 22. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
