TEXAS A&M EQUESTRIAN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Thursday, April 12, 2012

WACO, Texas-Texas A&M's three-time defending national champion and top-seeded western team made history on Thursday with a perfect 8-0 sweep of No. 8 Fresno State in the quarterfinals of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships at the Extraco Events Center.

The Aggie western riders (13-2) won all eight possible points at the national championships for the first time ever and posted their 12th consecutive victory at NCEAs, a streak which dates back to 2008. A&M advances to Friday's semifinal round, where it will face No. 5-seed South Carolina beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The Aggie reiners opened action by posting their fifth-ever sweep at NCEAs, as Courtney Dawe, Lindsey Bernbaum, Becca Murray and Abigail Grabein all earned victories. It marked the 12th consecutive win for the reining team at nationals.

Not to be outdone, the horsemanship squad came out victorious for the 15th consecutive time at NCEAs-a streak dating back to 2007-and did so with a sweep of their own. The first rider of the night, Amanda Brightwell, clinched the overall team victory with a win, and Kelsey Adams and Carey Nowacek soon followed with victories of their own. Katie Lisabeth then iced the sweep with a defeat of Lauren Crivelli in the evening's final ride.

Earlier in the afternoon, Texas A&M's seventh-seeded hunter seat team downed Fresno in impressive fashion, 6-2, and will also face the Gamecocks on Friday. The Aggies will meet No. 2-seed USC in quarterfinal action beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m. (CT). The teams last met in last year's championships, with the Gamecocks squeaking out a narrow 5-3 victory.

Scoring updates throughout the weekend will be provided on aggieathletics.com and through the Aggies' official twitter feed at @AggieEquestrian. In addition, free live video will be available on collegiateequestrian.com.
