BRYAN, Texas - The top-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team remained undefeated, completing the season sweep of Baylor Saturday afternoon with a 15-8 victory over the seventh-ranked Bears at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
The Aggies (8-0) outscored Baylor (6-6) in all four disciplines and claimed three of the four most valuable rider honors. A&M has held its opponents to eight or fewer points in all but one show this season.
The fences riders got Texas A&M going with four wins to start the day's action. Sophomore Kelsi Shevlin picked up the first MVP of her career to lead the way, downing Baylor's Taylor Brown by a score of 80-76. Joining Shevlin in the victory circle were junior Lia Chafee, sophomore Emily Williams and freshman Leah Curtiss.
The Aggie horsemanship squad bumped its season record to 7-0 by claiming four of six rides. Junior Katie Lisabeth was named MVP after an 80-point effort, with teammates Randi Standley, Amanda Brightwell and Carey Nowacek grabbing wins.
Junior Maggie Earle earned her third MVP of the year on the flat with a 78-68 win over Baylor's Melanie Appel. Wins by Kristin Bell, Hannah Soibelman and Elizabeth Solch then staked the Aggies to a 12-6 advantage heading into the final round of rides.
A&M's reiners wasted no time icing the victory, as senior Tara Christiansen's 72-70.5 win over Amber Mooney put the show out of reach. Becca Murray and Emma Myers scored the final points of the afternoon for the Aggies.
The overall victory was A&M's fourth straight against rival Baylor in regular-season action.
Texas A&M returns to action in two weeks when the Aggies open a three-show road swing at Kansas State on Saturday, Feb. 26. A&M will not return home until it hosts the Big 12 Championship on April 1-2 in Bryan.
