In his first season at Texas A&M, turned in one of the best seasons in school history ... named an All-American by Yahoo! Sports (first team) and Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball (second team) as well as first team All-Big 12 and the league's Newcomer of the Year ... selected second-team All-Midwest Region American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) ... chosen by his teammates to receive the C.E. "Pat" Olsen Outstanding Pitcher Award, given annually to Texas A&M's best pitcher ... a semifinalist for the 2010 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award and a quarterfinalist for the College Baseball Foundation's National Pitcher of the Year award ... broke the school record and was the national leader in earned run average at 0.80 ... second nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (13.49) and sixth in hits allowed per nine innings (5.81) ... finished with a 9-1 record with 10 saves in a team-leading 33 appearances ... while not qualifying for a save, has slammed the door on seven other Aggie wins ... struck out 114 batters in 79 innings of work ... held opposing batters to a team-low .181 average ... began the season with 18.1 consecutive scoreless innings ... sat down all 12 batters faced in order in first career mound appearance (Feb. 20 vs Seton Hall), striking out five over four innings of work ... retired the first 16 batters he faced in order to start the year ... did not allow a hit and struck out five in earning first save of season against Baylor (Feb. 27) ... picked up second save of the year against BYU (March 3), punching out six in 2.1 innings of no-hit relief ... allowed one hit in 3.2 innings of shutout relief in earning 2-1 victory over Winthrop (March 7) ... picked up both wins against No. 25 Washington State in relief ... in Friday win over the Cougars (March 12), WSU got the tying run to third on him with one out and he fanned the final two batters on six pitches ... fanned five in 3.1 innings of relief against Texas Tech (March 19) to tally first Big 12 save of his career ... slammed the door on Missouri (March 26) to earn second Big 12 save, using just 17 pitches to throw two perfect innings and strike out four ... matched a season/career high with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings at Kansas (April 2), earning the victory in a 6-4 defeat of the Jayhawks ... threw the final 2.2 innings of A&M's 4-3 win over the Bears (April 9) to register his fifth save ... suffered his only loss of the year at Baylor (April 11), giving up three hits and a run in two innings of work ... allowed one hit and fanned five in 2.2 shutout innings at No. 3 Texas (April 16) ... struck out five of six batters faced at Nebraska (April 30) ... back-to-back saves in outings at Sam Houston State (May 4) and Dallas Baptist (May 7) ... earned the win in relief against Oklahoma State (May 15) in a 10-inning, 5-3 victory ... got the final three outs of a 6-1 win at OSU (May 16) on just three pitches ... recorded three outs on 12 pitches to earn save in final regular season game, a 3-2 win over No. 23 Kansas State (May 23) ... allowed one unearned run against the Bears in four innings of work, as the Aggies erased a 3-0, eighth-inning deficit and won a 5-3 thriller in 10 innings ... named to the Big 12 All-Tournament team after closing out wins over Texas Tech (May 26) and Missouri (May 27), and earning the win in relief in the title game against Baylor (May 30) ... tossed 6.2 scoreless innings at the NCAA Coral Gables Regional, earning the win with three shutout innings against Dartmouth (June 6) ... did not allow an earned run after May 11, a stretch of nine appearances and 22.2 innings ... two-way player who saw action in 12 games in the field at shortstop, third and second base ... starting three games at short and six at third ... batted .250 in 36 at bats with four doubles, a triple, five runs scored and three RBI ... stole four bases on five attempts ... first defensive start was at short in the first game of the DH, a 13-6 win over the Pirates (Feb. 20) ... went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored ... went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI in a 7-6 loss to SFA (Feb. 24) ... picked up a hit against Prairie View (April 27) in first in the field start in over two months ... recorded three hits, including two doubles, in win at Nebraska (May 1). 2009 (FRESHMAN/TEXARKANA COLLEGE)
Earned all-conference, all-region and all-America honors on the mound for former Texas A&M coach Will Bolt at Texarkana College ... went 12-1 with a 2.44 ERA and 78 strikeouts, leading the Bulldogs to the regional finals ... 12 wins tied the school record for victories in a season ... played summer ball for the Texarkana Legion Indians and was named both the Texas and Midwest Player of the Year ... selected in the 19th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft by the Minnesota Twins. A three-year letterwinner for coach Glen Welch at Texas High School in Texarkana ... helped the Tigers to the area round of the playoffs all three seasons ... was an all-district and all-area honoree in each of his three years on the team ... named the district's defensive most valuable player as a senior (2008) ... a three-sport standout, lettered three years as a wide receiver on the football team ... earned first-team all-district and all-area honors as a senior (2007) ... a two-year letterwinner in basketball as a forward, took home all-district accolades as a senior (2008) ... a success in the classroom, was named academic all-American in football as a senior ... graduated summa cum laude and in the top 10 percent of his class ... was also a member of the Student Council. John Jacob Stilson is the son of Tommy and Lorna Stilson of Texarkana ... born July 28, 1990, in Texarkana, Texas ... has a younger sister, Kaci ... a wildlife and fisheries major, hopes to one day own his own game ranch ... enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf and bowling in his spare time.
