Athens, Ga. --- Texas A&M took down its oldest school record and remained in the hunt for an upper-division team finish on the second day of the 2014 Southeastern Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium.

A strong effort up and down the lineup has the Aggies standing in fourth place with 296 points after two days of competition. The Aggies trail Auburn (574 points), Florida (451.5) and Georgia (414), and lead a pack of five teams within 45 points of each other – Tennessee (289), Alabama (285), Missouri (266) and South Carolina (251).

The highlight of the day was easily the 200 free relay, which destroyed the school record that had stood since 2001 and was lone record not broken during the Jay Holmes era. The foursome of senior Kyle Troskot, senior Henrik Lindau, sophomore Cory Bolleter and senior Paul-Marc Schweitzer got to the wall in a blistering NCAA A cut time of 1:17.32 while placing fifth overall.

“It’s been an elusive record for us to break,” Aggie head coach Jay Holmes said. “We’ve had the personnel to break it before, but the elusiveness of that record was a testament to those four guys and what they accomplished in 2001. It’s a great feeling to get it done.”

Troskot led off the relay with a lifetime best time of 19.52 and he was followed by Lindau’s 19.55 split. Bolleter’s third leg of 18.99 was the fourth-fastest day as he became the third Aggie with a sub-19-second split in school history. Schweitzer closed out the relay with 19.26 split.

“Those were some big swims,” Holmes said. “We didn’t not respond well at all in the morning session in the 50 free and that was really disappointing. But three of those same guys were tuned in tonight and that was good to see them fight back.”

Senior Simon Frank, who lowered his own school record in the race with a 1:45.39 in the prelims, led a strong Aggie contingent in the 200-yard IM. He placed eight in the A final with a time of 1:45.95. Also logging points for the Aggies were junior Hayden Duplechain (20th, 1:46.93) and sophomore Antoine Marc (24th, 1:48.24). Duplechain’s lifetime best moved him to No. 3 on the Aggies’ all-time top 10 list. The trio of IMers combined to contribute 28 points.

A&M had a pair of divers in the A final of the one-meter springboard with junior Ford McLiney and senior Adam Ruiz. McLiney, the winner on the three-meter board on Tuesday, held the lead after five rounds, but a 54.25 score on his final dive moved him to fourth with 389.65 points. Ruiz took ninth with 323.30 points as the pair combined to score 46 points.

The Aggies scored 13 points in the 500 freestyle with junior Luke Shaw taking 16th in 4:23.23 and senior Omar Enriquez placing 23rd in 4:25.01. Both swimmers logged season bests and NCAA B cuts in the prelims with Shaw going 4:22.04 and Enriquez touching in 4:22.60.  Shaw’s prelim time of 4:22.04 moved him to No. 2 in A&M history.
