Aggies Widen Lead in Day Two

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team expanded its lead in the second day of the Art Adamson Invitational Friday.  The Aggies commanding lead of 810.5 points is followed by LSU 562.5, Air Force 528, TCU 394, SMU 326.5, and Stanford 122.5.

“You never know how other teams are going to do,” head coach Jay Holmes said of the standings. “The guys asked me this week if I thought we could win, and I said that it is up to them.”

With the first individual win of the day, junior Hayden Duplechain grabbed first place and an NCAA ‘B’ cut in the 400 IM with a time of 3:51.03. Senior Simon Frank came in third in 3:55.59, along with Duplechain adding crucial points for the Aggies.

Senior Henrik Lindau took first place in the 100 fly earning a ‘B’ cut and touching the wall in 46.52.  Senior Kyle Troskot also made a ‘B’ cut, coming in fourth with a time of 48.28.

Junior Luke Shaw beat out teammate senior Paul-Marc Schweitzer in the 200 free, where the two finished first and second with ‘B’ cuts of 1:37.20 and 1:37.22.

Lindau and sophomore Alexandros Theocharidis made ‘B’ cuts in the 100 back finishing second and third in 48.11 and 48.16, respectively.

Junior Ford McLiney brought in 15 points with a score of 390.10 in the 3-meter diving competition where he placed fourth.  Divers Adam Ruiz and Colton Haffey also scored for the Aggies with diving scores of 360.65 and 287.50.

With a spectacular finish, the squad of sophomore Mateo Muzek, Shaw, sophomore Hunter Funk, and Schweitzer won the 800 free relay by over two body lengths with a time of 6:31.59.  The 40 points added by the win helped to widen the Aggies lead heading into the final day of competition.

The Art Adamson Invitational will reach its conclusion tomorrow with preliminary swims beginning at 9:30 a.m. and diving at 1 p.m. Swimming finals will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the A&M Student Recreation Natatorium.
