The No. 18 ranked Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team will travel to Dallas Friday to compete against in-state opponent SMU at 6:30 in the Perkins Natatorium.
The Aggies received their No. 18 ranking Thursday by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) after a dual meet victory over LSU on Jan. 21 in Baton Rouge, La. The ranking marks the second time in the 2011-2012 season that A&M has been pegged at No. 18, as they received the ranking from the CSCAA on Nov. 11, 2011 as well.
SMU also broke into the Top-25 Thursday, coming in at No. 22 after a dual meet win against rival TCU.
Senior diver Grant Nel is coming off of being voted Big 12 Diver of the Week following his performance at LSU, in which he took first place on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. Nel's score of 410.05 in the 1-meter springboard was a season-high.
Part of Nel's competition will come with the name Devin Burnett, a freshman SMU diver who is coming of his own two-win performance at TCU, where Burnett won both the 1-meter (330.00) and 3-meter (366.08) springboard events as well.
The last time the Aggies traveled to Dallas on Jan. 29, 2010, the two teams competed down to the wire as the Aggies took a decisive final relay victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay to upend the Mustangs 119-118.
