Each year, the students of Texas A&M University participate in "The Big Event"--an opportunity for Aggies to say thanks to their hometown community of Bryan/College Station for its unwavering support through service projects.
This year's event was held on March 29 and, as in every year where the opportunity presents itself, student-athletes were involved.
With busy athletics practice and competition schedules--especially on a weekend--not all teams were able to participate. But those not in traditional competition seasons find a way to make Big Event a part of the annual tradition of community service.
From its roots 30 years ago, The Big Event has become the largest one-day, student-run service project in the nation and has expanded to 110 other schools across the nation and to international schools in Spain, Australia, Germany, Pakistan and Italy.
This year over 20,000 students flooded the local community to compete nearly 2,000 jobs--performing things such as painting, yard work and cleaning.
