Texas A&M in 12th Place in Directors' Cup

            COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The Texas A&M athletics program and the 12th Man are currently in 12th place in the 2013-14 Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup first winter rankings. The Aggies have finished in the Top 10 the past four years in the final year-end rankings. (6th in 2009-10, 8th in 2010-11, 9th in 2011-12, and 5th in 2012-13)

            The most recent rankings, the first winter sports, included points for rifle, skiing and men’s and women’s indoor track and field.

            Texas A&M and head track and field coach Pat Henry posted a fifth place finish in the women’s indoor track and field championships to earn 75 points while the men’s indoor track and field program posted an 8th place finish and earned 69 points.

            The Aggie fall sports posted 198 points and added to the winter total of 144 provides the total of 342 points in the standings.

            The next winter rankings will be released on Thursday, Apr. 10.

            Coach Steve Bultman and the Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team finished fourth at the recent NCAA Championships while the men’s swimming and diving program led by Coach Jay Holmes and diving head coach Jay Lerew finished at No. 44.

            Coach Gary Blair and the Aggie women’s basketball team reached the Elite 8 in the NCAA Championships.

            The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup takes into consideration the top 10 female sports and the top 10 male sports at each institution. In Texas A&M’s case, the school sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports, 11 female and nine male.
