Howdy from Aggieland! While the Texas A&M student body was on spring break, many of our athletic teams were hard at work, including the women's basketball team winning A&M's first SEC title at the conference championship in Duluth, Ga. Congratulations to Coach Blair and the team as we are definitely peaking at the right time of the season.
Texas A&M has the privilege of hosting the NCAA First and Second Rounds of the women's tournament, and the Aggies learned they will host Chattanooga, Nebraska and Wichita State at Reed Arena this weekend. It will be a tough test, and we will need the 12th Man in full force as the Aggies begin their 2013 NCAA tournament run. A full schedule and ticket information are available at AggieAthletics.com and 12thManFoundation.com.
We couldn’t be happier about hosting the NCAA First and Second Rounds for a second straight year. At Texas A&M, we have a history of hosting many conference, national and even international events. We believe it’s an honor to host, and it also gives an edge to our team because of the loyal 12th Man. Last month, Texas A&M hosted the SEC Swimming & Diving Championships, which was the first-ever SEC Championship event in College Station. I made it out to the Student Recreation Natatorium, and I thought it was a great representation by the student-athletes and coaches and by the staff. There are obviously a lot of moving parts to hosting nearly 500 competitors at one meet, and I want to commend the involved Athletic Department staff, as well as the folks over at the Rec Sports, for a job well-done.
This past weekend was a successful one for the Aggies, as we swept home SEC series in baseball against Georgia and in softball against Arkansas. The men’s tennis team notched a Sunday afternoon shutout against the Razorbacks at the Mitchell Tennis Center. Away from College Station, the women’s tennis team won its 11th straight match and stayed undefeated in the SEC with a win over Arkansas, and the track and field teams opened the 2013 outdoor season at Arizona State.
It's a great time to be an Aggie! See you at the NCAA First and Second Rounds at Reed Arena on Saturday when the women face Wichita State and hopefully again on Monday against the winner of the Nebraska vs. Chattanooga game.
