COLLEGE STATION- Writers from ESPN.com and SI.com had high praise for the 2014-15 Texas A&M women's basketball team, ranking the Aggies No. 4 nationally in their early rankings for the upcoming season.
ESPN's Charlie Creme ranked Texas A&M No. 4 in his early Top 25 ranking, ranking A&M guards Courtney Walker and Courtney Williams (who will be juniors in 2014-15), "among the top 10 players returning in the SEC." Creme goes on to say that "if the Aggies can fill the hole in the post left by the graduation of Karla Gilbert, they should have a legitimate chance to reach a Final Four."
Creme ranks six SEC squads in his Top 25, tied for the most in a single conference with the Big Ten.
Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch ranked the Aggies No. 4 as well, in his early Top 10 ranking. Deitsch notes that "the Aggies return 83 percent of their scoring in 2014-15, and that's a very good recipe for Gary Blair, one of the best coaches in the country."
The SEC is also well-represented in Deitsch's Top 10, leading all leagues with four of the 10 ranked squads.
Texas A&M is set to return 83% of its scoring from a team that went 27-9 and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 2013-14. The Aggies return four of five starters next season, including AP All-American Courtney Walker, All-SEC pick Courtney Williams and SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Jordan Jones, all of whom were sophomores in 2013-14.
