BRYAN, Texas- Former Texas A&M Center Karla Gilbert accepted an invitation to training camp with the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA, she announced Thursday at the Aggies’ 2013-14 Banquet. She joins former A&M All-American and 2011 Final Four MOP Danielle Adams on the Stars.
Gilbert averaged 11.3 points and 7.5 rebounds for Texas A&M in 2013-14, her first season as a full-time starter after spending time backing up Adams and Kelsey Bone of the Connecticut Sun. Gilbert set the Texas A&M single season record with 68 blocks, and finished second on the career blocks list, third on the career field goal percentage chart and ninth in total rebounds.
12 A&M players have been selected in the WNBA Draft or attended WNBA Training Camp since 2001, including six in the past four years. Three Aggies played in the WNBA during the 2013 season; Adams, Bone (then with the New York Liberty), and Sydney Carter (Connecticut Sun).
San Antonio’s season begins on Friday, May 16 at Atlanta.
