Mike "Radar" Ricke (Class of '82) is in his 30th overall season as an assistant athletic trainer at Texas A&M. A 20-year veteran with the men's basketball program, Ricke is in his 10th year as a member of Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair's staff.
"Radar is really passionate about what he does," Blair said. "Being a father of two daughters, Radar brings that extra care and compassion to our program. He treats our players like his very own and truly cares about their health and well-being at all times."
In addition to basketball, Ricke handles the athletic training activities for A&M's women's golf team. He served as the host athletic trainer for the NCAA Women's Golf Championship in 2011, the NCAA Women's Golf Regional in 2006 and the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship in 2002. During his career, Ricke has worked with a variety of teams at A&M. His athletic training experience includes working with football, baseball, cross country, track and field and men's tennis.
Along with the prevention of injuries and care of student-athletes, Ricke assists with the everyday operation of one of the finest athletic training programs in the nation. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association and the Texas State Athletic Trainers Association.
While an undergraduate, Ricke served four years as a student trainer under Hall of Famer Billy Pickard. After graduating from A&M in 1982, Ricke served six months as a graduate assistant before assuming full-time duties on June 1, 1983.
Ricke is married to the former Dee Dee Fort of Bryan. The couple has four children, Allison (21) who is a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2013, Amanda (18) who is a senior at Bryan High School, JT (17) who is a senior at Rudder High School, and Bridget (15) who is a freshman at RHS.
In his spare time, Ricke enjoys jogging, hunting, saltwater fishing and golfing. A native of La Marque, Texas, Ricke and his family currently reside in Bryan.
